International President Ed Hill, Local 222 South Florida Representative Willy Dezayas, Local 222 President Dale Smithmier, Local 222 Business Manager Mike Bell and International Secretary/Treasurer Jon Walters after Local 222 is awarded for the highest percentage increase in membership in any construction local in the 5th District for the year 2005.
Dezayas, Smithmier and Bell accepted the award on behalf of Local 222 in Atlanta, Ga. during the April 5th District Progress meeting.
It’s a well-known fact that the business we’re in comes with high
risks, but the knowledge and understanding of those risks does not
make losing a husband, wife, brother or sister to job related
accidents any easier.
As a union, it hits close to home any time an I.B.E.W. member passes away. But it is in times like these that our family-like structure shines the brightest. It is in times like the annual picnics that our dedication to this union and to each other is proudly displayed.
To all the members and their families: the I.B.E.W. is your family.
This is dedicated to all who have been hurt or killed doing a job too dangerous for many but to important to be left undone.
A special acknowledgement for Debra and Garrett Jeter who attended the picnic, Debra is the widow of Greg Jeter, a Journeyman Lineman who passed away on August 9, 2000. Greg had been a member of Local 222 since October 1, 1997. He was highly regarded by those who knew him and had the pleasure of working with him.

I am pleased to report that as of this writing over 80% of the Asplundh trimmers that are represented by Local Union 222 are receiving their Safety Bonus. The bonus is designed to provide additional compensation for having worked all year without a reportable injury.
They have also received new shirts and the Local Union representatives are working hard to make sure the company lives up to all the issues agreed to at the last bargain session.
Medical Insurance will be provided next year to all employees that sign up so be sure and sign up as soon as it becomes available.
Most all the bargaining unit members are currently working storm damage in south Florida, the rest are headed to the Gulf coast area and will most likely be there for some time to come.
